About

Short Biography

Professor Dr Tim Jordan obtained an Honours degree (1st Class) in Psychology and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Reading, UK.  He then moved to his first faculty position, at the University of St Andrews, UK, and then took Professorial Chairs in the UK at the Universities of Nottingham and Leicester before moving to take the same academic positions around the Mediterranean and the Middle East.  He is now Professor of Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience at Ibn Haldun University, Istanbul.

Prof Jordan’s research interests are wide and include such key areas as visual perception, written and spoken language recognition, facial processing, social cognition, and hemispheric specialization, often applying this knowledge to studying cognitive and perceptual processes across different cultures, genders, and societies.  He set up and heads the Cognition and Perception Laboratories at Ibn Haldun University and is supported by a wonderful group of researchers, including the amazing Aleyna and Kübra.

The Cognition and Perception Laboratories have numerous international collaborations, including with the UK Houses of Parliament.  Baroness Gohir is a member of the UK House of Lords and is an associate of the Labs with special interests in the Labs' research into visual perception of Muslim women.  The Baroness set up and heads a major charity in the UK that works to improve social justice and equality for Muslim women and girls.  The brain's perception of Muslim women here in Türkiye and in the UK is part of our collaborative research with the Baroness in the Cognition and Perception Laboratories.  Prof Jordan is also an advisor to members of the UK Houses of Parliament on how the brain perceives Muslim women, with the goal of improving social and legal attitudes towards Muslim women and girls around the world.

Outside of the Lab, Prof Jordan lives in a beautiful, overpriced apartment in the sylvan haven of Başakşehir in Istanbul, and still supports his home club of Birmingham City FC.
