About

Short Biography

I was born in Tirebolu in 1971 where I completed my primary school education. I studied my secondary school education in Istanbul during which I also studied classical Arabic in Islamic studies. I completed my BA degree in theology at Ankara University in 1994. Studying on pastoral care and counselling I became able to get my first MPhil degree in RE in 1997 at the same university. I started my PhD studies at the University of Birmingham in the UK and successfully completed my degree under the supervisions of Dr. Paul Timmins and Prof. John M. Hull by studying on the cognitive conflicts and struggles of young Muslims on their faith. I pursued my career by teaching and learning in the areas of social psychology and psychology of religion. I have been able to study further on counselling and research methods in the same university. I spent most of my academic career at Cumhuriyet University between the years of 1995-2013. Upon an invitation I moved to Ibn Haldun University in 2017 after working short terms in Izmir and Ankara. During my whole career, my studies focused on religious cognition and behaviour crosscutting topics in social psychology, individual differences, cognitive development and clinical psychology. I was refreshed and motivated by presenting in international academic activities across in many countries and working with international fellow scholars. In addition, I have been able to take part in national and international research projects. I believe that bringing contextual matters and value preferences into psychological studies will be an important contribution to human service inside and outside.
